In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of installing Ubuntu on a Virtual Machine (VM) using VirtualBox. Follow these steps to download the Ubuntu ISO file, set up the VM, and enable scale mode on VirtualBox for Ubuntu.

Step 1: Download the Ubuntu ISO File.
- Open Your Browser: You can use any browser like Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
- Search for Ubuntu: Type "download Ubuntu" in the search bar and click on the "Get Ubuntu Download" option.
- Visit the Official Site: Click on "Accept All" to visit the site.
- Select Version: Choose the Ubuntu version suitable for your requirements.
- For desktop users, click on "Download Ubuntu to Desktop".
- Download ISO: The latest version, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, is around 6GB. Click on "Download", select your preferred download location (e.g., Downloads folder), and save the file.
Step 2: Setting Up the Virtual Machine in VirtualBox.
- Click on "New".
- Enter a name for your VM.
- Select the folder where you want to save the VM files.
- Choose the downloaded Ubuntu ISO file from the Downloads folder.
- Leave the initial options as default.
- Ensure the host name contain atleaset three alphabets.
- Set the base memory (RAM) up to 8GB or more.
- Set the processor to 2 CPU cores or more. Its upto you.
- Create a virtual hard disk and allocate 50GB.
Step 3: Installing Ubuntu on VirtualBox.
a) Start the Installation: Click on "Try or Install" and proceed with the installation process.
b) Initial Setup:
- Select your preferred language (e.g., English) and click "Next".
- Choose to use a wired connection and skip updates since you have the latest ISO.
- Select "Install Ubuntu alongside or instead of your current OS".
- Choose "Interactive Installation" for a guided setup.
- Choose the default selection for essential apps.
- Opt to install recommended proprietary software for better performance.
- Select "Install third-party software" for graphics and Wi-Fi hardware, and additional media formats.
- Enter a username (e.g., eTechniz) and a basic password.
- Choose your time zone and click "Next".
Step 4: Enable Scale Mode on VirtualBox.
a) Restart and Set Up: After installation, restart the VM.
b) Insert Guest Additions CD:
- Click on "Devices" > "Insert Guest Additional CD Image".
- Open the CD in the terminal.
- Type
ls
and press enter. - Use the command
sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
- If prompted to install bzip2, use
sudo apt-get install bzip2
